Our Day at Audubon Zoo

Our Day at Audubon Zoo

Audubon Zoo hosted our visit in exchange for this post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

My parents live in Mississippi, and we spent Thanksgiving with them this year. We always have so much fun when we all get together. The day before Thanksgiving was my sisters birthday, and all she wanted was to spend the day at the Audubon Zoo. So, that weekend, we all loaded up and took a little road trip to NOLA for some fun. The weather was gorgeous that day, perfect for walking around and exploring.

Perfect For Families

Audubon Zoo is pretty big, we spent over 1/2 the day there, and still didn’t see everything. We easily could’ve spent an entire day. It is a beautiful facility and there are animals from all over the world. My absolute favorite part of the day, was seeing a mama Baboon “wearing” and breastfeeding her baby. I wasn’t fast enough to get a picture, but if you caught my IG stories that day, you may have seen my excitement!

Something I thought was really cool, was all the play spaces they had throughout the zoo. In each area, there was something for the kids to do. There were play structures and a petting zoo, but I think the favorite was the big grass hill. Between my kids and niece and nephews that were with us, we had kids ranging from 20 mo- 5.5 yrs old, and they all loved running and rolling up and down that hill. Part of me wished I could’ve taken a turn! As a mama, I really appreciated those breaks to let my kids have some extra fun. They also have a water park, but it wasn’t open this trip. We are definitely going to head back in the summer to give that a spin!

The sidewalks were large and there was plenty of room for strollers/wagons, which is a huge plus as parents of little ones. I hate it when a space is crowded with strollers. And if you don’t want to bring your own, you can rent a single or double stroller there.

I loved seeing all the animals! My son talked me into petting a snake (EEK!) but I really enjoyed getting to see the Giraffes up close. We got there right as they were finishing a feeding time. In a few of the exhibits, there are times throughout the week when you can have special encounters with the animals, like feeding.

Louisiana Swamp Lands

Another exhibit I really loved was the Louisiana Swamp. It was so cool to see some of the swamp land in a truly natural habitat and I loved all the historical information they had scattered throughout the area. You can also stop here for a snack, lunch, or just to take a breather.

Zoo Lights

On our way out, we got a sneak peek at the stunning lights they had set up for the holidays. During the holiday season, you can go back to the zoo after hours and see it all lit up. The displays they had set up were so pretty, I wish we had time to stay!

If you are going to be in the New Orleans area, I highly recommend putting the Audubon Zoo on your itinerary. It’s a great activity for the entire family, all ages will have a great time here!
