You probably know by now (hopefully you have looked around my little space) that Self Care is extremely important to me. I share about it frequently, because I want you to know that you are worth spending time on and deserve to be at the top of your list.
Why Self Care?
It is so easy to spread ourselves thin. Work, motherhood, and just life, in general, can take so much out of us. Think of yourself as a cup, and each day you pour little bits into all the things that you do. Well, you can not pour from an empty cup. I know it can be so hard, but taking even just a few minutes to refill your cup is crucial. You will be able to be a better mom, friend, employee, and person when you are refilling.
So What is Self Care, anyway?
Self Care looks different for everyone. Each of us has things that make us happy and fill our cups up. For me, self-care often looks like a hot bubble bath, with an ice-cold coke. An hour in that bathtub can fix just about any problem for me. I also often call my mom, just to “vent” and have a safe space to get the hard stuff off my chest. What looks like self-care for me, may not do anything for you Don’t compare your self-care, with those around. There is no right or wrong way to take care of you.
10 Easy Ways You Can Practice Self Care
Go On A Walk – A little sunshine and fresh air can go a long way. Even just a quick walk around the block can do so much good. I often do this with my kids when we are all feeling a little down.
Take A Hot Bath – This is the best kind of self-care for me. Warm water can be so soothing and the quiet time is necessary
Exercise – For some, getting blood flowing can be so healing.
Create Something – Write, Paint, Draw, Cook, Craft
Meditate – This one can be hard, but shutting your mind off for just 5 minutes is great self-care. I love apps like Calm and Headspace if you are just starting out!
Repeat Affirmations – remind yourself that you are enough and you don’t have to do it all! I shared some of my favorite mom affirmations in this post
Call A Good Friend – it can be so therapeutic to talk to someone you love and trust
Turn Off Your Phone – we do so much on our phones, taking a little break from the world never hurts!
Take A Nap – Whenever you can squeeze one in, I highly recommend it!
Take A Drive – Around the neighborhood, to your favorite park, or to the next town over. Listen to your favorite music, a podcast you love, or just enjoy the quiet.
*Bonus*– Browse the aisles of Target SOLO. A good Target trip is practically therapy for me.
“Self–care is never a selfish act – it is simply good stewardship of the only gift I have, the gift I was put on earth to offer others. Anytime we can listen to true self and give the care it requires, we do it not only for ourselves but for the many others whose lives we touch.” – Parker Palmer
Self-care looks different for all of us. Some of my friends are also sharing how they practice self-care. Take a second to visit their posts too!
